With my team, we created a game where you control two characters simultaneously. Rabelais controls the temperature of a cauldron, while Nostradamus chooses what to put into the cauldron based on his nighttime sky predictions.

As a game designer on this project, I created the game loop and its content. The Gatcha had specific rules; the Itch team selected various constraints for their game. If they didn't adhere to them, they would lose points. We had the constraints of judicial astrology, controlling two entities simultaneously, and implementing a day and night cycle.

  • Planetarium: The game is divided into two parts. The player observes the night sky to gain clues about what potion they need to create during the day.
  • Historical Check: We incorporated this constraint to highlight a historical fact, namely the difference between Rabelais and Nostradamus. Rabelais consistently portrayed Nostradamus as a charlatan.
  • Moisture is the essence of wetness: It's the reason we have a potion-making game. The cauldron can be used to create dynamic fluids, and to align with history, Nostradamus aims to discover the panacea.
  • Let me show you the future: To represent judicial astrology, the player needs to decipher the potion code by observing the sky.
  • Left Brain, Right Brain: In the second phase, the player controls both Rabelais and Nostradamus to create the potion. With Nostradamus, the player selects the ingredients, and with Rabelais, the player controls the cauldron's temperature. Each ingredient affects the cauldron's temperature differently.

On top, you can see the adjustments I have made for sky exploration. The circles represent different levels of zoom. To fully identify a constellation, the player needs to adjust the focus correctly to make the constellation colors appear.

I have adjusted both the zoom level and the number of constellations to increase the difficulty.
